History

OkadaBooks was founded by Okechukwu Ofili in 2013 when he got frustration with the system of the Nigerian book distribution network.[2]. The name OkadaBooks is a eulogy to how the commercial motorcycles, commonly known as Okadas, avoid the hectic traffic on the streets of Nigeria.[3]

Achievements

The company initiated the first ever Campus Writing Challenge sponsored by Union Bank of Nigeria in 2018.[4][5][6][7]

Other achievements of the company include:

  • Selected for the first Google Launchpad Accelerator Africa[8]
  • Partnership with Teach For Nigeria[9][10]
  • Initiation of the annual APEN Short Story Contest for students in secondary schools[11]
  • Listed as one of the 20 outstanding writers' platforms of 2018[12]
  • Mentioned as one of 10 Best African Booksellers[13]
