Montgomery has also self-released eights albums under the name Scene of Action as a solo performer. As of early 2019, Montgomery performs as Scene of Action live on the streaming platform Twitch. In February 2019, Scene of Action and DeadMau5 collaborated on the track "Hurricane" on the EP Level 3 released by DeadMau5’ record label Mau5Trap. HistoryEarly releases and performancesIn 2007, Scene of Action released their debut self-titled EP through the indie label PopSmear Records with Montgomery on lead guitar and vocals, Sam Raven on bass, and Matt Ingram on drums.[1] Their single “Daydream Stop Shock” was featured on rotation on Bay Area radio station Live 105’s Soundcheck show, with host Aaron Axelsen listing it as one of the top 30 Soundcheck records of August 2007.[2] In 2009, the band released their second EP 20 Minute Hourglass with both Ingram and Ian Sampson playing drums.[3] The release received generally positive reviews from the Bay Area music scene, with the East Bay Express stating “fans of mainstream rock should be impressed with San Francisco indie band Scene of Action’s latest offering”[4] and the San Francisco Bay Guardian describing it as “highly polished alt-rock”.[5] In December, the band entered and won the Night So Silent Night competition held annually by Live 105.[6] They performed on December 11, 2009 in the opening slot before the bands Vampire Weekend, Metric, AFI, Thirty Seconds to Mars, and Muse.[7] Following the show the East Bay Times stated “Muse, Metric and Vampire Weekend weren’t the only bands that turned heads during Live 105’s Not So Silent Night show in December. This Bay Area’s own alt-rock sensation opened the show and since then, the buzz on this band has been hard to ignore.”[8] They were also asked to headline the Soundcheck Local Band stage at the summer music festival BFD held by Live 105 on June 6, 2010.[9] Self-published releases and music placementsFollowing their releases with PopSmear Records, Scene of Action self-published two albums with Raven on bass and Sampson on drums: The Silent Collapse, Pt. One EP on July 14, 2012[10]; and the full-length album Circles on November 19, 2013.[11] On February 12, 2012 the band’s single “Don’t Question My Sense of Loyalty” was featured on episode 6 of the first season of the Showtime show House of Lies.[12] On April 30, 2013, their song “Beggar” from the album Circles was featured on a video on Racer X Online.[13] Move to solo act and streaming on TwitchStarting in 2015, Montgomery began performing and releasing music under the name Scene of Action as a solo performer. On June 4, 2016 he once again performed on the Soundcheck Local Band stage at BFD.[14] Using nine cameras controlled by foot switches, Montgomery started streaming music production and performances live on the online platform Twitch in 2015.[15] Since October 2015 he’s released eight albums recorded and produced live on stream. He’s also been a regular presenter and performer at TwitchCon, hosting a panel on live-streaming music and performing a music showcase in 2017, and performing on the Twitch Yearly stage 2016-2018.[16][17] Collaboration with DeadMau5After connecting on Twitch, Montgomery collaborated with Canadian musician DeadMau5 on the track “Hurricane”, which was released on February 1, 2019 on the EP Mau5ville: Level 3 by DeadMau5’s record label Mau5Trap.[18] The song has received favorable reviews, with Billboard describing Montgomery’s vocals as “angelic”.[19] DiscographyFull-length albums
