The league was founded in 2018 and is currently contested by ten teams; five in the girls division, and five in the mens division. HistoryThe Summer Series was created by two former students of Newlands College, where the aim is to, "allow teams to play against one another in true game conditions before the season begins. This allows teams to practice, try new things, and bond with one another.[1]" Leading into the Summer Series competition, many other minor basketball competitions were run by the pair, including The New World Series and The Newlands 3x3 School Championship.[2] Competition formatRegular seasonEach team is to play 4 games during the regular season. The regular season starts in February and ends in mid March. FinalsThe top four teams at the end of the regular season advances to the Finals. The team finishing in the first position at the completion of the regular season receives top seed and plays against the team finishing fourth. The team who finishes second at the completion of the regular season receives second seed, and plays against the team finishing third. The winner of each of these matches advances to the Grand Final. The style of the shirt follows similarly to the Basketball New Zealand tournament shirt,[3] however, the SAS Sports logo is on both sleeves, instead of being on the right chest. The Spark NZ logo is in place on the right chest. Current Referees
