It is also less commonly known as a chip sandwich, chip batch, chip roll, chip muffin, piece and chips, chip piece, or chip sarnie. One variation is the chip bap or chip barm, which uses a floury bap or barm cake instead of sliced white bread. In the East Midlands a chip butty made with a bread roll is referred to as a chip cob. Scallop buttyA variation frequently seen in the North of England is the scallop butty, in which potato scallops (potato slices that have been battered and deep fried) are used in place of chips.[6][7] In popular cultureA football chant called "The Greasy Chip Butty Song" (sung to the tune of "Annie's Song" by John Denver) is popular with the supporters of Sheffield United Football Club.[1][2] The chip butty made appearances both as a power-up in the video game Earthworm Jim 2 and as a house in the PC game The Neverhood.{{cn|date=March 2018}} See also
