Aconbury ({{lang-cy|Caer Rhain}}) is a village in the English county of Herefordshire, situated on a road between Hereford and Ross-on-Wye. St John the Baptist Church was originally the church of a nunnery founded before 1237. The style of the current building is late 13th-century. Some restoration work was carried out in 1863 by Sir George Gilbert Scott.[1] According to local legend, a phantom monk was once exorcised into a bottle, which is now buried in the wall of the church.[2] References1. ^{{Cite book | last = Pevsner | first = Nikolaus | authorlink = Nikolaus Pevsner | title = The Buildings of England - Herefordshire | publisher = Yale University Press | year = 1963 | location = New Haven and London | pages = 62 | isbn = 978-0-300-09609-5 }} 2. ^{{citeweb|last=Murdie |first=Alan |title=Ghost in a Bottle |url=http://www.forteantimes.com/strangedays/ghostwatch/3310/ghost_in_a_bottle.html |publisher=Fortean Times |date=April 2010 |accessdate=30 August 2014 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20140903130340/http://www.forteantimes.com/strangedays/ghostwatch/3310/ghost_in_a_bottle.html |archivedate=3 September 2014 }} External links{{Commons category inline|Aconbury}}{{coord|51.998|-2.706|region:GB-HEF_type:city|display=title}}{{Herefordshire-geo-stub}} 1 : Villages in Herefordshire |
