This type of modifying RNA is usually located in the nucleolus of the eukaryotic cell which is a major site of snRNA biogenesis. It is known as a small nucleolar RNA (snoRNA) and also often referred to as a guide RNA. snoRNA MBII-202 belongs to the C/D box class of snoRNAs which contain the conserved sequence motifs known as the C box (UGAUGA) and the D box (CUGA). Most of the members of the box C/D family function in directing site-specific 2'-O-methylation of substrate RNAs.[1][2] snoRNA MBII-202 was originally cloned from mouse brain tissues.[3] References1. ^{{cite journal | vauthors = Galardi S, Fatica A, Bachi A, Scaloni A, Presutti C, Bozzoni I | title = Purified box C/D snoRNPs are able to reproduce site-specific 2'-O-methylation of target RNA in vitro | journal = Molecular and Cellular Biology | volume = 22 | issue = 19 | pages = 6663–8 | date = October 2002 | pmid = 12215523 | pmc = 134041 | doi = 10.1128/MCB.22.19.6663-6668.2002 }} 2. ^{{cite journal | vauthors = Kiss T | title = Small nucleolar RNAs: an abundant group of noncoding RNAs with diverse cellular functions | journal = Cell | volume = 109 | issue = 2 | pages = 145–8 | date = April 2002 | pmid = 12007400 | pmc = | doi = 10.1016/S0092-8674(02)00718-3 }} 3. ^{{cite journal | vauthors = Hüttenhofer A, Kiefmann M, Meier-Ewert S, O'Brien J, Lehrach H, Bachellerie JP, Brosius J | title = RNomics: an experimental approach that identifies 201 candidates for novel, small, non-messenger RNAs in mouse | journal = The EMBO Journal | volume = 20 | issue = 11 | pages = 2943–53 | date = June 2001 | pmid = 11387227 | pmc = 125495 | doi = 10.1093/emboj/20.11.2943 }} External links
