It is located in the North Ostrobothnia region. The town has a population of {{formatnum: {{Infobox Finnish municipality/population count|Haapavesi}}}} ({{#time: j F Y|{{Infobox Finnish municipality/population count|sourcedate}} }}) and covers an area of {{convert|{{Infobox Finnish municipality/total area|Haapavesi}}|km2}} of which {{convert|{{Infobox Finnish municipality/waters area|Haapavesi}}|km2|abbr=on}} is water. The population density is {{convert|{{Infobox Finnish municipality/population density|Haapavesi|round=2}}|PD/km2}}. Neighbour municipalities are Haapajärvi, Kärsämäki, Nivala, Oulainen, Raahe, Siikalatva and Ylivieska. The municipality is unilingually Finnish. The town is known for the Haapavesi Folk Music Festival[1] which gathers folkmusicians together. At Haapavesi, there is a {{convert|327|m}} tall guyed TV mast, which belongs to Finland's tallest man-made structures. Haapavesi Folk High SchoolThe Haapavesi Folk High School ({{lang-fi|Haapaveden opisto}}) is an ideologically independent boarding school. Haapavesi Folk High School is one of the eleven folk high schools cooperating in the HUMAK University of Applied Sciences. HUMAK offers education and training in the fields of Civic and youth work, Cultural management and production as well as Sign language interpreter.
