It is named after the Armenian patriotic leader David Bek. The 2011 Armenia census reported its population as 796,[2] down from 809 at the 2001 census.[3] David Bek -known as Zeyva at the time- is the birthplace of the Armenian revolutionary leader and the founder of the Republic of Armenia of 1918; Aram Manukian.
