{{infobox gene}}Interleukin 36 receptor antagonist (IL-36RA) is a member of the interleukin-36 family of cytokines. It was previously named Interleukin-1 family member 5 (IL1F5).[1][2][3][4]The protein is known to inhibit the effects of Interleukin-36 cytokines (IL-36α, IL-36β and IL-36γ) via competing with their receptor IL-36R/IL1RL2 and thereby inhibiting their proinflammatory effects.[5] Roles in diseaseMutations in the IL-36RN gene resulting in a decrease or production of defective IL-36RA protein have been shown to cause inflammatory skin diseases including generalised pustular psoriasis, acrodermatitis continua suppurativa Hallopeau (ACH) and acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP).[6] References1. ^{{cite journal |vauthors=Smith DE, Renshaw BR, Ketchem RR, Kubin M, Garka KE, Sims JE | title = Four new members expand the interleukin-1 superfamily | journal = J Biol Chem | volume = 275 | issue = 2 | pages = 1169–75 |date=Feb 2000 | pmid = 10625660 | pmc = | doi =10.1074/jbc.275.2.1169 }} 2. ^{{cite journal |vauthors=Mulero JJ, Pace AM, Nelken ST, Loeb DB, Correa TR, Drmanac R, Ford JE | title = IL1HY1: A novel interleukin-1 receptor antagonist gene | journal = Biochem Biophys Res Commun | volume = 263 | issue = 3 | pages = 702–6 |date=Nov 1999 | pmid = 10512743 | pmc = | doi = 10.1006/bbrc.1999.1440 }} 3. ^{{cite journal |vauthors=Sims JE, Nicklin MJ, Bazan JF, Barton JL, Busfield SJ, Ford JE, Kastelein RA, Kumar S, Lin H, Mulero JJ, Pan J, Pan Y, Smith DE, Young PR | title = A new nomenclature for IL-1-family genes | journal = Trends Immunol | volume = 22 | issue = 10 | pages = 536–7 |date=Sep 2001 | pmid = 11574262 | pmc = | doi =10.1016/S1471-4906(01)02040-3 }} 4. ^{{cite web | title = Entrez Gene: IL36RN interleukin 36 receptor antagonist| url = https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?Db=gene&Cmd=ShowDetailView&TermToSearch=26525| accessdate = }} 5. ^{{cite journal|last1=Towne|first1=JE|last2=Garka|first2=KE|last3=Renshaw|first3=BR|last4=Virca|first4=GD|last5=Sims|first5=JE|title=Interleukin (IL)-1F6, IL-1F8, and IL-1F9 signal through IL-1Rrp2 and IL-1RAcP to activate the pathway leading to NF-kappaB and MAPKs.|journal=The Journal of Biological Chemistry|date=2 April 2004|volume=279|issue=14|pages=13677–88|doi=10.1074/jbc.M400117200|pmid=14734551}} 6. ^{{cite journal|last1=Navarini|first1=AA|last2=Valeyrie-Allanore|first2=L|last3=Setta-Kaffetzi|first3=N|last4=Barker|first4=JN|last5=Capon|first5=F|last6=Creamer|first6=D|last7=Roujeau|first7=JC|last8=Sekula|first8=P|last9=Simpson|first9=MA|last10=Trembath|first10=RC|last11=Mockenhaupt|first11=M|last12=Smith|first12=CH|title=Rare variations in IL36RN in severe adverse drug reactions manifesting as acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis.|journal=The Journal of Investigative Dermatology|date=July 2013|volume=133|issue=7|pages=1904–7|doi=10.1038/jid.2013.44|pmid=23358093}} 7. ^{{cite journal |last1=Macleod |first1=T |last2=Doble |first2=R |last3=McGonagle |first3=D |last4=Wasson |first4=CW |last5=Alase |first5=A |last6=Stacey |first6=M |last7=Wittmann |first7=M |title=Neutrophil Elastase-mediated proteolysis activates the anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-36 Receptor antagonist |journal=Scientific Reports |date=22 April 2016 |volume=6 |pages=24880 |doi=10.1038/srep24880 |pmid=27101808|pmc=4840362 }}
