{{Orphan|date=December 2010}}Throughout the scriptures of the three Abrahamic religions – Judaism, Christianity and Islam – there exist a large number of descriptions of the afterlife that awaits the faithful believers. There exist multiple names for the afterlife among the differing faiths. Jewish Bible{{Empty section|date=December 2010}}Christian New Testament- In the Gospel of John, Jesus describes Heaven as God's "house" and speaks of it having "many rooms".[1]
- According to the Book of Matthew, "many" of those in Heaven "will sit down with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.[2]
- According to the Book of Matthew, Jesus told his followers that "From the days of John the Baptiser until now, the Kingdom of Heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by storm.[3]
- According to the Book of Mark, Jesus told a hesitant follower that those who would give away their earthly riches, will be given "treasure" in the afterlife.[4]
Quran- In the 57th Surah, Al-Hadid, the afterlife for the righteous is described as being "a garden of Bliss, the width of which is as the width of heaven and earth".[5]
- In the Surah Al-Ghaashiyah, there is described a garden in the afterlife in which there is a running spring, and rich carpets spread out, cushions laid out in rows and cups at-hand.[6]
