Arebhashe is a dialect of Kannada spoke by Hindus of the Gowda^[1] community in the regions of Kodagu and Sullia of Dakshina Kannada in the Indian state of Karnataka..

Etymology

Linguists^[2] have suggested that the word Arebhashe means 'half-tongue,' from the Arebhashe word "a're" meaning "half" and bhashe, meaning "speech." Arebhashe pronunciation and accent are slightly distinct from Kannada.

History

Arebhashe is written in the Kannada script.^[3]The Arebhashe dialect is believed to have originated during the transformation of Hale Kannada to Hosa Kannada, and according to some historians{{who|date=June 2018}} the dialect may have diverged be five-hundred years ago.^[4]{{better source|date=August 2016}}
