释义 |
He was born in Kildonan, Manitoba, the son of John Inkster, a native of Scotland, and Mary Sinclair, the daughter of William Sinclair, chief factor with the Hudson's Bay Company. Inkster was educated at St. John's College in Winnipeg. In 1871, he married Annie Tait. He was named sheriff in 1876 and served in that position for 52 years. Inkster also served as rector for St. John's Cathedral.[2] Inkster was known to skip rope every morning for exercise.[3] He died after suffering smoke inhalation during a fire at his hunting lodge on Delta Marsh.[1] His former home, which he named Bleak House after a novel by Charles Dickens, is now designated as a heritage property by the city of Winnipeg.[4] References1. ^1 {{cite web |url=http://www.mhs.mb.ca/docs/people/inkster_c.shtml |title=Colin Inkster (1843-1934) |work=Memorable Manitobans |publisher=Manitoba Historical Society |accessdate=2013-12-17}} {{DEFAULTSORT:Inkster, Colin}}{{Manitoba-politician-stub}}2. ^{{cite book |url=http://www.ourroots.ca/page.aspx?id=519977 |title=Tales of early Manitoba from the Winnipeg Free Press |pages=26–28 |year=1970 |last=Paterson |first=Edith |publisher=Winnipeg Free Press |accessdate=2013-12-17}} 3. ^1 {{cite book |url=http://www.ourroots.ca/page.aspx?id=4028207 |title=Pioneers and prominent people in Manitoba |page=83 |year=1925 |last=McCrea |first=Walter Jackson |accessdate=2013-12-17}} 4. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.historicplaces.ca/en/rep-reg/place-lieu.aspx?id=5931 |title=Inkster House |work=Canada's Historic Places |publisher=Parks Canada |accessdate=2013-12-17}} 3 : 1843 births|1934 deaths|Members of the Legislative Council of Manitoba |
