It grows to 60 cm high and has yellow flowers that appear in spring and summer.[1] The species was first formally described in 1817 by Swiss botanist Augustin Pyramus de Candolle in Regni Vegetabilis Systema Naturale.[2] Hibbertia obtusifolia occurs in New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania.
