释义 |
CourseThe Kopili originates in the Meghalaya plateau and flows through Central Assam and the hill districts of Assam before its confluence with the Brahmaputra. In Assam it drains the districts of Karbi Anglong, Dima Hasao, Kamrup and Nagaon.[2] The river flows for a total length of {{convert|290|km|mi}} and has a catchment area of {{convert|16420|km2|mi2}}. It is noted for several spectacular waterfalls along its course which has several deep gorges and rapids in the {{convert|120|km|mi}} of its flow before debouching into the plains at Nagaon district.[1][3] WaterworksCompleted in 1975, the Kopili Flow Irrigation Scheme in Kamrup district irrigates {{convert|1300|ha|acre}} of land across 14 revenue villages and facilitates paddy cultivation.[4] The Kopili Hydro Electric Project, located across the districts of North Cachar Hills in Assam and Jaintia Hills in Meghalaya and run by the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation, consists of the Khandong and Umrongso dams and their reservoirs and three power houses that have a total installed capacity of 275 MW.[5] Environmental issuesThe Kopili has as many as 54 species of fish in it.[2] Unscientific opencast coal mining in the Kopili's upper reaches in Meghalaya has led to acidification of the river which has in turn left part of the river's course biologically dead, making the water unfit for human consumption and has led to frequent outages at the Kopili Hydro Electric Project's power stations.[5][6][7][8] References1. ^1 {{cite journal|last=Mahanta|first=Kashyap|title=Structural Formation & Seismicity of Kopili Fault Region in North- East India and Estimation of Its Crustal Velocity|journal=International Journal of Modern Engineering Research|date=November–December 2012|volume=2|issue=6|pages=4699–4700}} {{coord|26|10|N|92|15|E|display=title|region:IN_type:river_source:GNS-enwiki}}{{Use dmy dates|date=March 2017}}{{Hydrography of North-east India}}2. ^1 {{cite journal|last=Das|first=Bubul|title=A Comparison of Fish Diversity of Kopili and Jamuna Rivers of Karbi Anglong District, Assam|journal=The Science Probe|date=May 2012|volume=1|series=1|pages=22–23|url=http://thesciprobe.com/files/documents/5.-A-Comparison-of-Fish-Diversity-of-Kopili-and-Jamuna-Rivers%E2%80%A6.pdf|accessdate=18 September 2013}} 3. ^{{cite web|title=Jaintia Hills|url=http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/1512519/Kopili-River|publisher=Encyclopædia Britannica|accessdate=18 September 2013}} 4. ^{{cite web|title=GUWAHATI WEST DIVISION (IRRIGATION), ULUBARI, GUWAHATI-8|url=http://kamrup.nic.in/irri.htm|accessdate=18 September 2013}} 5. ^1 {{cite journal|last=Sharma|first=Pankaj|title=Acid mine discharge – Challenges met in a hydro power project|journal=International Journal of Environmental Sciences|date=April 2011|volume=1|issue=6|pages=1274–1275|url=http://www.ipublishing.co.in/jesvol1no12010/EIJES2078.pdf|accessdate=18 September 2013}} 6. ^{{cite news|title=Two Kopili power units shut down - Mining in Jaintia Hills affects machines|url=http://www.telegraphindia.com/1130620/jsp/northeast/story_17025213.jsp#.UjnhKdLQkYo|accessdate=18 September 2013|newspaper=The Telegraph|date=20 June 2013}} 7. ^{{cite news|title='Black gold' kills rivers, stains state poll canvas|url=http://www.hindustantimes.com/News-Feed/NEPolls/Black-gold-kills-rivers-stains-state-poll-canvas/Article1-1015376.aspx|accessdate=18 September 2013|newspaper=The Hindustan Times|date=21 February 2013}} 8. ^{{cite news|title=Concern over contamination of Kopili water|url=http://www.assamtribune.com/scripts/detailsnew.asp?id=jun2012/state06|accessdate=18 September 2013|newspaper=The Assam Tribune|date=20 June 2012}} 4 : Rivers of Meghalaya|Rivers of Assam|Tributaries of the Brahmaputra River|Karbi Anglong district |
