Nadim Abbas (born 1980, Hong Kong) is a Hong Kong installation artist. BiographyAbbas received his BFA from London's Chelsea College of Art & Design and MPhil from the University of Hong Kong Department of Comparative Literature. He teaches at the City University Hong Kong School of Creative Media and the Hong Kong Art School/ RMIT University.[1] WorkAbbas's practice includes heavily-researched installation and sculptural works that play on the psychological patterns of everyday objects and kitsch.[2] His work draws thematic inspiration from literature, science and psychology. His first solo exhibition was the "Cataract" at Experimenta, on 2010.[3] Other works included are "Marine Lover" at ART HK 11, and a collaboration with Saamlung Gallery on a project for the 2012 Hong Kong International Art Fair.[4] For Art Basel Hong Kong in 2014, Abbas was invited by Absolut to collaborate on an "art bar", an art installation doubling as a pop up bar during Art Basel fairs around the world.[5] Abbas' concept called "Apocalypse Postponed" drew inspiration from Science Fiction films, 20th century military architecture and defensive plans such as The Atlantic Wall and the Swiss National Redoubt, creating a bunker-like environment, constructed from sand bags, with blacked-out windows within a 7000 square foot space.[6][7][8] References1. ^{{cite news | url=https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/17149795/CV_Aug2013.pdf | first=Nadim | last=Abbas | work=Artist CV | date=2013-08-01 | accessdate=2015-01-05 | title=Nadim Abbas Biography }}{{dead link|date=February 2018 |bot=InternetArchiveBot |fix-attempted=yes }} 2. ^{{cite news| url=http://www.artforum.com/archive/id=26911 | first=Robin | last=Peckham | work=Artforum Online | date=2010-11-30 | accessdate=2015-01-06 | title=Nadim Abbas }} 3. ^{{Cite web|title = Hong Kong Art: Visual Archive|url = http://finearts.hku.hk/hkaa/revamp2011/artist_view.php?artist_id=180|website = finearts.hku.hk|accessdate = 2015-09-22}} 4. ^{{cite news| url=http://www.cnngo.com/hong-kong/life/nadim-abbas-109521 | first=Christopher | last=DeWolf | work=CNN Go | date=2011-05-12 | accessdate=2015-01-08 | title=Hong Kong Artist Nadim Abbas and his dead coral reef }} 5. ^{{cite news| url=http://www.absolut.com/us/news/Photography/Introducing-Nadim-Abbas/ | first=Saskia | last=Neuman | work=Absolute Website | date=2014-05-01 | accessdate=2015-01-05 | title=Introducing Nadim Abbas }} 6. ^{{cite news| url=http://www.aestheticamagazine.com/blog/apocalypse-postponed-nadim-abbas-at-art-basel-hong-kong-2014/ | first=Cassandra | last=Naji | work=Aesthetica Magazine | date=2014-05-01 | accessdate=2015-01-08 | title=Apocalypse Postponed: Nadim Abbas at Art Basel Hong Kong }} 7. ^{{cite news| url=http://www.randian-online.com/np_feature/another-apocalypse-nadim-abbas/ | first=Robin | last=Peckham | work=Aesthetica Magazine | date=2014-05-12 | accessdate=2015-01-08 | title=Another Apocalypse: Nadim Abbas }} 8. ^{{cite news | url=http://www.myartguides.com/art-basel-hong-kong-2014/events/item/2599-apocalypse-postponed-absolut-art-bar-by-nadim-abbas | work=My Art Guides | date=2014-05-12 | accessdate=2015-01-08 | title=Apocalypse Postponed: Absolut Art Bar by Nadim Abbas | deadurl=yes | archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20141020173024/http://www.myartguides.com/art-basel-hong-kong-2014/events/item/2599-apocalypse-postponed-absolut-art-bar-by-nadim-abbas | archivedate=2014-10-20 | df= }} External links
