The Da Poetry Lounge (DPL) is the largest weekly open mic performance space for poetry in the US.[1][2] The DPL is located in Los Angeles at the Greenway Court Theatre and performances are held every Tuesday night from 9pm–12am.[3] FoundersThe DPL was founded in 1998 by poets; Dante Basco, Ron "Shihan" VanClief, Devan "Poetri" Smith and "Brutha" Gimmel Hooper.[4][5][6] Dante BascoThe organization was originally named, "Dante's Poetry Lounge" but has since been renamed "Da Poetry Lounge."[7] Basco is a Filipino American actor, poet and performer who notably played Rufio in Hook. EventPerformers have to show up to the Tuesday night readings early to sign up to perform.
