Ella Constance Sykes is a female traveler and writer. She is an English woman who was born in 1863 and died in 1939. She was a daring and adventurous woman who was one of the first European women to travel through Persia. She traveled alongside her brother, as they both found Persian culture extremely interesting. In 1915, she traveled with her brother through Chinese Turkistan. She was a pioneer for feminism with her despise towards marriage and having to play out the gender roles of women for the time period. Instead, she preferred to devote her time to traveling and volunteer work with girls. Some of her most notable works of writing include, Through Persia on a side-saddle, London, 1898 ., The Story Book of the Shah or Legends of old Persia, London, 1901., Persia and its People, London, 1910., A Home-help in Canada, London, 1912.

, and Through deserts and oases of Central Asia, London, 1920 (with P.M. Sykes). [1]
