Impute.me is an open-source website that analyses consumer genetics data[1]. The platform is useful to people who want to learn more about the genetic basis of their traits[2]. The site provides comprehensive analysis of the computed scientific data from the leading DNA-data providers, as well as trait records for all common diseases and traits. The site is non-profit and free to use.

The main goal of impute.me is to educate people on cutting-edge genetics research, and understanding the underlying biological composition of disease and human variation in which trait and diseases prediction can be done. This includes complex diseases such as diabetes, cardiac disease, coronary heart disease, mental disorder and autoimmune disease. This includes using and explaining the possibilities of using full polygenic risk-score measurement rather than single-SNP analysis.

The possibility of a single gene variant causing a particular result can be displayed in terms of percentage, and this is called penetrance of the gene. Polygenic scores aren't new, and they aim to predict an individual’s likelihood of showing any trait[3] with a genetic component - including traits such as hair, skin, height or weight - and are termed as polygenic risk scores when they refer to disease susceptibility based on big databases of genome data co-existing[4].

Utilization of polygenic scores to quantify the susceptibility of inherited conditions, for example breast cancer could be quite useful: the larger the dataset, the more variants linked with a specific trait can be identified[5].

Depending on what version of the gene we inherit — numbering in hundreds, if not thousands — that interact with each other-- certain traits simply get turned on and off[6], like ignition. But most commonly, when it comes to humans, with our huge genome of 3 billion base pairs, the ignition analogy pretty much fails. In this case polygenic scores come to usefulness in assessing the joint associations of genetic markers.
