[2][3] Kady Rain writes all of her music with her boyfriend and cowriter, Ben Bazzrea, who also works as her executive producer. [4] In 2016, Wolf in a Suit named her one of the Top 5 new Indie Queens of Music and NPR included her song R.A.D. Moves in the SXSW 2018 "Austin 100," a list described by NPR as "Handpicked from thousands of bands playing at this year's festival, these 100 songs highlight the best SXSW 2018 has to offer — songs from around the world, across a broad spectrum of genres, sounds and styles." [5][6]Life and CareerMusical BeginningsKady Rain started her first band in high school called the Pickpockets alongside Curtis McMurtry, son of James McMurtry. Her first show was at the Broken Spoke, which has also hosted Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, The Dixie Chicks, and George Strait.[7] After high school Rain sang for a Portuguese band called Ze Dos Frangos from 2007 to 2008. [8] Later she played in a band called the Feels, and a sludge metal band called De Los Muertos.[9] The All I Ever Wanted EP to PresentKady Rain and Ben Bazzrea met while working at Starbucks and they started writing songs together during the summer of 2014, writing nearly 130 songs together across the next 18 months and selecting the best five for her debut EP, All I Ever Wanted, released on August 26th, 2016.[10][11][12] R.A.D. Moves, the lead single from the EP, was written by Kady Rain, Ben Bazzrea, Shannon Brielle, and Sameer Bhattacharya from FlyLeaf and produced by Doug Helsel with Rain's debut music video for the track coming out on September 23rd, 2016. [13][14] Both Austin.com and Ovrld named Kady Rain as Austin's next megastars. [15][16] Kady Rain released her first feature with Australian DJ/Producer Donatachi, called Take Me, on August 22nd, 2017 with Nic Kelly at Project U calling it a perfect pop song and Christian Naccarato at YourEdm.com describing the duo as "on their path to EDM stardom."[17][18] In July of 2017, Decap released his remix of All I Ever Wanted. [19] SXSW 2018 saw Kady Rain win both the "Superlative Award", from the Austinot and selected for NPR's "Austin 100."[20][21] Rain released her first single of 2018, It Wasn't the Roses, on May 24th. Written alongside Ben Bazzrea, Rain teamed up with Yuri Zwadiuk (whose credits include Lil' Wayne and Mary J. Blidge) to create a retro-leaning pop track.[22] It Wasn't the Roses is about Rain's experience with domestic violence, specifically one incident that left her in the hospital for 10 days. [23] The Deli called It Wasn't the Roses "a summertime pop hit" and Ovrld praised it as Kady Rain's "most impressive work so far". [24][25] As of May 2018, Rain and Bazzrea have written nearly 400 songs together.[26] Rain opened for rapper CupcakKe and Kreayshawn on May 26th, 2018 at Empire Control Room. [27] Kady Rain released Lonely One on June 22nd, 2018. Cowritten by Ben Bazzrea and Ariel Abshire, and produced, mixed, and mastered by Yuri Zwadiuk, idobi called it "an anthem for the post-Weinstein era."[28] In June of 2018, Stephen Thompson at NPR cited R.A.D. Moves as his song of the summer for 2018 on his podcast, Pop Culture Happy Hour, beating out artists like Zedd, Beyonce, Drake, and Jay-Z.[29] Discography
