It is called so because of the presence of State Bank of India. Apart from private city buses, Express & other local buses operating outside the city like Udupi, Manipal, Puttur, Bantwal, Dharmasthala, Subrahmaniya, Sullia, Kundapur, Bhatkal, Shimoga, Chickamagaluru, Davangere, Kasargod, Kannur, Kozhikode terminate here. Most of the buses are private buses and some are government buses like KSRTC (both Karnataka and Kerala). For the government buses to terminate there is another bus terminal at Bejai. Majestic is for Bangalore similarly Statebank is for Mangalore. It is the busiest region in Mangalore and also the commercial and trading area along with Hamkankatta, Carstreet and Bunder.
