Monument to Fyodor Ushakov ({{lang-ru|Памятник Ушакову}}) — is a monument in Rostov-on-Don, Russia, dedicated to Russian admiral Fyodor Ushakov, the commander of the Black Sea Fleet, the commander of the Russian-Turkish squadron in the Mediterranean. The monument was opened on September 16, 2001. Sculptor ― Honored Artist of the Russian Federation (2004) Anatoly Andreevich Sknarin.

History

Russian admiral Fyodor Fedorovich Ushakov devoted his life to service in Russian Black Sea Fleet. He was a master of naval battles and the pioneer of Russian naval techincs who made a considerable contribution to the development of the tactics of sailing fleet.

Fyodor Ushakov did not suffer a single defeat in his battles, did not lose a single ship, and not a single one of men under his command was captured.

The career path of Ushakov began on the Don. There he graduated from the Sea Cadet Corps. The young officer served in Don (Azov) flotilla under the command of Admiral A. N. Sinyavin. Fyodor Fyorovich was to guard the Azov coast, the lower reaches of the Don and the fortress of Azov from possible attacks by the enemy.

At that time, the Russian fleet was being developed at an accelerated pace and required constant replenishment of new ships. For the construction of ships for the Azov flotilla, midshipman Ushakov was engaged in the supply of timber.

In 1769 in the fortress of St. Dimitry of Rostov he was promoted to lieutenant. Ushakov stayed at Don and Azov region until summer of 1775. His service and years he spent in Azov expedition were a school of military art for the young officer.
