He is the son of Pekka Herlin, former chairman of KONE. He is the former chairman of the Confederation of Finnish Industries (Elinkeinoelämän Keskusliitto EK). Herlin owns a farm in Kirkkonummi where he raises Hereford and Aberdeen Angus beef cattle.
