It is owned by the City of Cranbrook and operated by Elevate Airports Inc. Runway 16/34 is an {{convert|8000|by|150|ft|abbr=on}} Asphalt runway with a category 1 instrument landing system capable of guiding aircraft down to {{convert|200|ft|abbr=on}} in {{convert|1/2|mi|abbr=on}} of visibility. The terminal building covers {{convert|23000|sqft|abbr=on}}. In 2008, YXC served over 106,277 passengers{{Citation needed|date=December 2007}} and in 2010 had 15,060 aircraft movements.[3] The airport is operated 24 hours a day by the Cranbrook Flight Service Station. The airport is classified as an airport of entry by Nav Canada and is staffed by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA). The aircraft crashed after thrust reversers did not fully stow following a rejected landing that was executed in order to avoid a snowplow.
