The lyrics were written by the Värmlandian Anders Fryxell in his musical Vermlandsflickan (The Värmlandian Girl). The song was subsequently incorporated 1846 in Fredrik August Dahlgren's play "Värmlänningarna" (The Värmlandians). In Sweden, this composition is often performed as an anonymous treasure of the Swedish folksong tradition. The melody was "borrowed" in its entirety by Max Bruch in the 1st movement of his Concerto for clarinet, viola and orchestra, Op 88.{{cn|date=February 2019}} Bruch composed it in 1911 for his son, Max Felix Bruch, and the work received its first performance in 1912.{{cn|date=February 2019}} The song is sung by the young Nicolai Gedda in the 1952 film Eldfågeln.[1] The song was recorded, in Swedish, by Israeli folk duo Esther & Abi Ofarim for their 1968 LP 'Up To Date'[2] "Dear Old Stockholm"The song is best known in the English-speaking world for versions by jazz artists such as Stan Getz, Miles Davis, Paul Chambers and John Coltrane (it can be found on Coltrane's Impressions album).[3][4] References1. ^Eldfågeln (1952) at The Swedish Film Database, accessed 14 May 2007. 2. ^{{cite web |title=Ack Varmeland du skona |url=http://www.esther-ofarim.de/Disco.htm |website=Esther & Abi Ofarim}} 3. ^Discogs.com John Coltrane 4. ^{{cite web|last1=Griffith|first1=Sam|title=SPOTLIGHT TUNE: DEAR OLD STOCKHOLM|url=https://dizzylandjazz.wordpress.com/2014/10/15/spotlight-tune-dear-old-stockholm/|accessdate=31 January 2017}} External links
