In April 1993, he was arrested in the Republic of Ireland, on firearms charges, and was sentenced to four years in prison. In November 1996, he was released from Portlaoise Prison as part of the Irish government's early release programme for republican prisoners.[2] In April 2000, the High Court stated that he should be extradited to Britain, to face charges of conspiracy to murder and to cause explosions as well as escaping from prison and wounding with intent. Quinlivan claimed that it would be pointless to extradite him, because under the terms of the Belfast Agreement, he would have had to be freed by July 2001.[2] In August 2009, the Crown Prosecution Service in Britain announced it was no longer seeking the extradition of Quinlivan and McAuley.[3] His brother Maurice is a Sinn Féin TD for Limerick City. In early 2009 the arrest of three women, who were running a brothel in an apartment Nessan Quinlivan owned and was renting to them unknowingly, triggered a series of events that would lead to the resignation of the Minister of Defence Willie O'Dea.[4] References1. ^[https://wikileaks.org/leak/uk-operation-banner-2006.pdf the most important campaigns ever fought by the British Army and its fellow Services]{{dead link|date=January 2011}} {{PIRA}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Quinlivan, Nessan}}{{Ireland-bio-stub}}2. ^1 {{cite news|url=http://www.rte.ie/news/2000/0414/quinlivan.html|title=High Court rules Nessan Quinlivan should be extradited|work=RTÉ News|date=14 April 2000|accessdate=22 April 2016}} 3. ^{{cite news|url=http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/opinion/were-overtures-made-to-deter-the-extradition-of-two-ira-men-pearse-mcauley-and-nessan-quinlivan-14444294.html|title=Were overtures made to deter the extradition of two IRA men Pearse McAuley and Nessan Quinlivan?|work=Belfast Telegraph|date=6 August 2009|accessdate=22 February 2010}} 4. ^{{cite news|url=http://www.limerickleader.ie/news/Maurice-Quinlivan-fails-in-Willie.5189041.jp|title=Maurice Quinlivan fails in Willie O'Dea legal action|work=Limerick Leader|date=22 April 2016|accessdate=22 February 2010|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20120328131419/http://www.limerickleader.ie/news/local/maurice-quinlivan-fails-in-willie-o-dea-legal-action-1-2188403|archivedate=28 March 2012}} 9 : 1965 births|Escapees from England and Wales detention|Irish criminals|Irish escapees|Irish republicans|Living people|People from Limerick (city)|Provisional Irish Republican Army members|Republicans imprisoned during the Northern Ireland conflict |
