The Division of Gorton is an Australian Electoral Division in the state of Victoria.

History

The division was created in 2004 to replace the abolished Division of Burke, and is named for Sir John Gorton, Prime Minister of Australia from 1968 to 1971. Gorton is located in the outer western suburbs of Melbourne, including the suburbs of Albanvale, Burnside, Cairnlea, Caroline Springs, Deer Park, Delahey, Derrimut, Hillside, Kings Park, Melton and Taylors Hill, as well as the townships of Diggers Rest, Eynesbury and Toolern Vale.

The constituency of Gorton features a high proportion of young families and new suburban developments in the working-class outer western suburbs of the Melbourne metropolitan area. It has the second-highest proportion in Australia of children aged 0–4 (8.9%), the third-lowest proportion aged over 65 (6.8%).

The current member for Gorton since its creation at the 2004 election is Brendan O'Connor, a member of the Australian Labor Party.
