Released May 13, 1997, it was the first to be recorded and released without the band's founder and former leader Glenn Danzig.[1] Bassist Jerry Only, after years of litigation, reached a settlement with Danzig and was granted the rights to use the band's name and image to record and perform. The album also marked the addition of singer Michale Graves and Dr. Chud on drums .[1] Originally, the album was going to be titled Dead Kings Rise, a play on the band's resurrection, but was changed when the title track didn't make the album.{{citation needed|date=July 2015}} The album was produced by Daniel Rey, who has produced for artists such as the Ramones and White Zombie.{{citation needed|date=July 2015}} Reception{{Album ratings| rev1 = AllMusic | rev1Score = {{Rating|2.5|5}}[1] | rev2 = Entertainment Weekly | rev2Score = B[2] | rev3 = Rolling Stone | rev3Score = {{Rating|1.5|5}}[3] | rev4 = PopMatters | rev4Score = Positive[4] }}Entertainment Weekly said "Their goofy formula of lyrics inspired by bad horror movies, poppy vocals, and blasting hardcore is still excellent mosh-pit fodder."[2] Track listing{{tracklist| total_length = | all_writing = the Misfits (Michale Graves, Jerry Only, Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein, and Dr. Chud) except where noted | title1 = Abominable Dr. Phibes (Instrumental) | length1 = 1:41 | title2 = American Psycho | length2 = 2:06 | title3 = Speak of the Devil | length3 = 1:47 | title4 = Walk Among Us | length4 = 1:23 | title5 = The Hunger | length5 = 1:43 | title6 = From Hell They Came | length6 = 2:16 | title7 = Dig Up Her Bones | length7 = 3:01 | title8 = Blacklight | length8 = 1:27 | title9 = Resurrection | length9 = 1:29 | title10 = This Island Earth | length10 = 2:15 | title11 = Crimson Ghost | length11 = 2:01 | title12 = Day of the Dead | length12 = 1:49 | title13 = The Haunting | length13 = 1:25 | title14 = Mars Attacks | length14 = 2:28 | title15 = Hate the Living, Love the Dead | length15 = 1:36 | title16 = Shining | length16 = 2:59 | title17 = Don't Open 'Til Doomsday" "Hell Night | note17 = hidden track; written by the Misfits and Daniel Rey | length17 = 7:58 }}{{tracklist | headline = LP bonus track | total_length = | title18 = Dead Kings Rise | length18 = }} Chart positions
