It was initially launched as Civic Commons as an independent nonprofit organization, but later became a program of Code for America. The project is a coordinated effort between Code for America, OpenPlans, and the District of Columbia's Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO).[3] ProjectsFederal IT DashboardThe Federal IT Dashboard was launched in June 2009 as a government transparency initiative.[4] According to US CIO Vivek Kundra, it was "a website where you could track $80 billion of IT spending annually."[5] Initially it was only available to the federal government, which used the dashboard to monitor project effectiveness and decide the allocation of resources.[5] With help from the Civic Commons initiative, the IT dashboard was made freely available to all government entities in March 2011.[5] Enterprise Addressing SystemThe Enterprise Addressing System (EAS) is a web-based application introduced by the San Francisco Department of Technology to manage the city's master database of addresses.[8] In response to other jurisdictions' expressed interest in EAS, the city of San Francisco decided to open source the system with help from Civic Commons.[9] In early 2011, Farallon Geographics developed a secure solution for EAS using open source geospatial technology.[10] References1. ^1 {{cite web |url=http://www.informationweek.com/news/government/enterprise-apps/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=225800258 |title=Federal IT Dashboard goes Mobile |author=Elizabeth Montalbano |accessdate=2011-04-20 |publisher=Information Week}} [1][2][3][4][5][6]2. ^1 {{cite web |url=http://www.film.dc.gov/DC/OCTO/About+OCTO/News+Room/Civic+Commons+Launched+to+Help+Government+Share+Technology+and+Cut+Costs |title=Civic Commons Launched to Help Government Share Technology and Cut Costs |accessdate=2011-04-20|publisher=DC.gov}} 3. ^1 2 3 {{cite web|url=http://codeforamerica.org/press/itdb/|title=Cost-Saving IT Dashboard Software Now Available to All Levels of Government|accessdate=2011-04-20|publisher=Code for America|deadurl=yes|archiveurl=http://webarchive.loc.gov/all/20120205191217/http://codeforamerica.org/press/itdb/|archivedate=2012-02-05|df=}} 4. ^1 {{cite web|url=http://blog.civiccommons.org/2010/09/introducing-eas/|title=Introducing San Francisco's Enterprise Addressing System|accessdate=2011-04-26|publisher=Civic Commons|deadurl=yes|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20120312230525/http://blog.civiccommons.org/2010/09/introducing-eas/|archivedate=2012-03-12|df=}} 5. ^1 {{cite web |url=http://opengeo.org/publications/farallon/|title=Case Study: Farallon|accessdate=2011-04-26|publisher=OpenGeo}} 6. ^1 {{cite web|url=http://blog.civiccommons.org/2011/01/sf-eas-open-sourced/|title=San Francisco's Enterprise Addressing System Is Now Open Source!|accessdate=2011-04-26|publisher=Civic Commons|deadurl=yes|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20120315124241/http://blog.civiccommons.org/2011/01/sf-eas-open-sourced/|archivedate=2012-03-15|df=}} }} External links
