It is a formative shell midden on the Savannah River measuring about 96 meters long by about 48 meters in width. The midden contains large quantities of fiber-tempered and Thom's Creek pottery—both examples of the earliest pottery found in the southeast.[2][3] It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.[1] References1. ^1 {{NRISref|version=2010a}} {{National Register of Historic Places in South Carolina}}{{AllendaleCountySC-NRHP-stub}}2. ^{{Cite web | author = Michael Trinkley | title = Fennell Hill| work = National Register of Historic Places - Nomination and Inventory | date = August 1974 | url = http://www.nationalregister.sc.gov/allendale/S10817703005/S10817703005.pdf | format = pdf | accessdate = 4 March 2014}} 3. ^{{Cite web | title =Fennel Hill, Allendale County | work = National Register Properties in South Carolina | publisher = South Carolina Department of Archives and History | url = http://www.nationalregister.sc.gov/allendale/S10817703005/index.htm |accessdate = 4 March 2014}} 2 : Archaeological sites on the National Register of Historic Places in South Carolina|National Register of Historic Places in Allendale County, South Carolina |
