SpeciesSpecies accepted by The Plant List as of August 2014. Some studies have suggested that the African and Canary Island species should be moved to other genera and that the Italian endemic Lereschia thomasii should be included in Cryptotaenia, but we list them here provisionally pending further study.[2][3][4]
Culinary usesCryptotaenia japonica is raised as a seasoning (similar to angelica). English names for the plant include mitsuba, Japanese wild parsley, stone parsley, honeywort, san ip, and san ye qin (from {{zh|c=三叶芹|p=sānyè qín}}). Like parsley, the flavor is clean and refreshing with a slightly bitter taste which some describe as celery-like. The sprouts are used in salads and soup. In Japan it is commonly used as a garnish in soups or atop entrees or as a sushi ingredient. Nutritional benefitsMitsuba's dark green leaves, stems, and pods have an extensive nutritional profile, including high levels of calcium and vitamin C.{{Citation needed|date=October 2011}} References1. ^{{Cite book|url=http://www.forest.go.kr/kna/special/download/English_Names_for_Korean_Native_Plants.pdf|title=English Names for Korean Native Plants|publisher=Korea National Arboretum|year=2015|isbn=978-89-97450-98-5|location=Pocheon|pages=426|access-date=7 December 2016|via=Korea Forest Service|deadurl=yes|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20170525105020/http://www.forest.go.kr/kna/special/download/English_Names_for_Korean_Native_Plants.pdf|archivedate=25 May 2017|df=}} 2. ^The Plant List, search for Cryptotaenia 3. ^{{ cite journal |author1=Hardway, T.
