It is one of the few public schools in the territorial capital, along with Inuksuk High School, Nakasuk School, Aqsarniit Ilinniarvik School, École des Trois-Soleils, and Nanook Elementary School in Apex. The school is an elementary school serving Grades 1 to 5 and named after Inuit hunter Joamie.[1] The school opened in 1988, but the original building burned down in a fire in 2003 and was rebuilt.[2] The front of the school features a two-storey gym with classrooms located at the rear. Parking at the school is found on the side street.
