释义 |
Elections to Wigan Council were held on 6 May 1976, with one third of the seats up for election. Four Conservative gains and an Independent in Ward 23 regaining a seat reduced Labour's working majority to 40 seats. Two seats (Ward 4 and Ward 21) went uncontested, and turnout rose to 34.0% - a return to 1973 levels after a sizeable fall the previous year.[1] Election result{{Election Summary Begin|title = Wigan Local Election Result 1976}}{{Election Summary Party||party = Labour Party (UK) |seats = 17 |gain = 0 |loss = 5 |net = -5 |seats % = 70.8 |votes % = 51.3 |votes = 35,499 |plus/minus = +2.1% }}{{Election Summary Party| |party = Conservative Party (UK) |seats = 6 |gain = 4 |loss = 0 |net = +4 |seats % = 25.0 |votes % = 40.8 |votes = 28,260 |plus/minus = +0.0% }}{{Election Summary Party| |party = Independent (politician) |seats = 1 |gain = 1 |loss = 0 |net = +1 |seats % = 4.2 |votes % = 2.9 |votes = 2,038 |plus/minus = +0.4% }}{{Election Summary Party| |party = Liberal Party (UK) |seats = 0 |gain = 0 |loss = 0 |net = 0 |seats % = 0.0 |votes % = 3.9 |votes = 2,732 |plus/minus = -2.9% }}{{Election Summary| |party = ER |seats = 0 |gain = 0 |loss = 0 |net = 0 |seats % = 0.0 |votes % = 0.6 |votes = 392 |plus/minus = +0.6% }}{{Election Summary Party| |party = Communist Party of Great Britain |seats = 0 |gain = 0 |loss = 0 |net = 0 |seats % = 0.0 |votes % = 0.4 |votes = 309 |plus/minus = -0.3% }}{{Election box end}} This result had the following consequences for the total number of seats on the Council after the elections:
