See also the Ararat rebellion. | 1945 | August 16 | Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan is founded. | 1946 | August 16 | Kurdistan Democratic Party (Iraq) is founded. | 1975 | June 1 | Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (Iraq) is founded. | 1976 | Kurdistan Socialist Democratic Party (Iraq) is founded. | 1978 | November 25 | Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) is founded.[1] | 1985 | Kurdistan Toilers' Party (Iraq) is splintered off from the Kurdistan Socialist Democratic Party. | 1988 | Anfal genocide begins. Massoud Barzani resigns from post of President of Iraqi Kurdistan; Kurdistan Regional Government accepts the Federal Supreme Court of Iraq's opposition towards independence; Kurdish authorities agree to hand over control of Erbil and Sulaymaniyah airports to the federal government.
