One of the early bands he was active in was King Kobra, from 1984 to 1986. In 1986 he joined the heavy metal band W.A.S.P..[1] Johnny Rod used both Fender (the Fender Precision bass is his all-time favorite) and B.C. Rich basses during his career. His main bass with W.A.S.P. was a yellow B.C. Rich Ironbird bass. In 2010, he reunited with King Kobra.
