It is found in the eastern Atlantic Ocean off west Africa in the Gulf of Guinea as far north as Ghana as well as the islands of Bioko and Sao Tomé and Principe where it is abundant. It is found among rocky reefs, rocks and rubble.[1] Like other damselfish this species forms pairs for breeding, the eggs stick to the substrate and are guarded and aerated by the males.[2] References1. ^1 {{cite journal | author1 = Rocha, L.A. | author2 = Myers, R. | last-author-amp = yes | year = 2015 | title = Microspathodon frontatus | journal = The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species | volume = 2015 | page = e.T188622A1903771 | doi = 10.2305/IUCN.UK.2015-4.RLTS.T188622A1903771.en }} {{Taxonbar|From=Q2434348}}2. ^{{FishBase|Microspathodon|frontatus|month=June|year=2018}} 2 : Microspathodon|Fish described in 1970 |
