释义 |
The son of Isaac J. Brown and Katherine Hamm, he was educated in Rosenbach and Winkler. In 1960, he married Katie Jansen. Brown worked as a businessman and a farmer before entering political life. He served as a councillor in the town of Winkler from 1967 to 1974, and was the first Vice-President of the Manitoba Beet Growers Association for a time, as well as serving on several local boards.[2] Brown was first elected to the Manitoba legislature in the provincial election of 1973, defeating Social Credit Party leader and MLA Jacob Froese[1] by about 1,400 votes (the Social Credit Party would never again elect an MLA in Manitoba). He was re-elected in the 1977 election, which the Tories won under Sterling Lyon; Brown, however, was not appointed to cabinet. He was re-elected in the elections of 1981 and 1986, and resigned in 1988 when his riding was eliminated through redistribution.[1] He died in Winkler in 1994.[3] References1. ^1 2 3 {{cite web|url=https://www.gov.mb.ca/hansard/members/mla_bio_deceased.html#B0 |title=MLA Biographies - Deceased |work=Legislative Assembly of Manitoba |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20140330155427/http://www.gov.mb.ca/hansard/members/mla_bio_deceased.html |archivedate=2014-03-30 }} {{Authority control}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Brown, Arnold}}2. ^1 {{cite book |title=Canadian Parliamentary Guide |year=1976 |last=Normandin |first=Pierre G}} 3. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.mhs.mb.ca/docs/people/brown_pa.shtml |work=Memorable Manitobans |title=Peter Arnold Brown (1927-1994) |publisher=Manitoba Historical Society |accessdate=2014-01-18}} 4 : Progressive Conservative Party of Manitoba MLAs|1927 births|1994 deaths|People from Winkler, Manitoba |
